What rehab costs, and who pays

There is no single price. Here is how to find out what you will really owe before you sign anything.

GET IT IN WRITING

  1. What does my plan pay?
  2. What do I owe per day?
  3. What if coverage stops?

Why you can’t get one straight number

The price of rehab depends on the level of care, how long you stay, and who is paying. A program’s list price often has little to do with what you will really owe. What matters is your deductible, your out-of-pocket limit, and whether the program is in your network.

Beware of anyone who says insurance will cover everything before they have checked your plan in writing. A quick “you’re covered” over the phone is not the same as a benefits check you can keep.

Three ways people pay

  • Private insurance: most plans must treat addiction care on par with other medical care.
  • Florida Medicaid: can cover treatment for people who qualify.
  • No insurance: state-funded programs and sliding-scale care exist in Palm Beach County.

Five things to ask about money

  1. Is this in network? Out-of-network care can cost far more.
  2. What is my share? Ask about the deductible, coinsurance and out-of-pocket limit.
  3. What is the daily rate? Get it for each level of care.
  4. What if coverage ends? Ask whether you can stay, and at what price.
  5. Any fees up front? Ask what is refundable if you leave early.
