What PHP is, and what it is not
A partial hospitalization program, or PHP, is day treatment. You attend several hours a day, most days of the week, then go home at night. It is often the step down from residential care, or a way to avoid it when home is stable.
PHP is not residential care, even when it comes with housing. In South Florida, many programs pair PHP with apartments or sober homes. That can work well, but the housing is a separate thing to check, and free or cheap housing tied to your insurance is a warning sign.
In short
Treatment by day.
Home or housing at night.
Check the housing separately.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between PHP and IOP?
Mainly hours. PHP runs more hours a day and more days a week. IOP is lighter and usually fits around work or school.
Can I work during PHP?
It is hard, since PHP takes up most of the day. Ask about evening options, or look at IOP.
Does insurance cover PHP?
Many plans do when it is medically necessary. Ask your plan directly, and note that housing is often not covered as treatment.
Is free housing with rehab a red flag?
It can be. Florida law bans paying or receiving kickbacks for patient referrals, and free rent tied to treatment is a known warning sign. See our page on patient brokering.
